The over 200,000 home buyers who participate in shared ownership programs, intending to purchase the property they are renting and making payments on, were recently excluded from the stamp duty tax cut for new owners in the most recent government budget. The Labour Party is trying to change this. They argue that these home buyers are the ones that need these tax cuts the most . The government claims the exemption is already there but Labour argues that because it has to be paid up front when purchasing by shared ownership, it’s not feasible for most buyers.
