For a variety of potential reasons, the Intermediary Mortgage Lenders Association (IMLA) has predicted that there will be a rise in mortgage lending in 2018 and 2019. The growth in mortgage lending so far in 2018 has so far occurred despite the uncertainty arising from Brexit. Some of these reasons why gross mortgage lending may increase over the next year may be due to low turnover rates in the homeowner market as well as unique challenges to first-time homeowners. The market will need to adapt in order to maintain a supply of homes for those who are not in the position to overcome the current market trends.
