Brits may be facing jail time for running illegal lotteries as the new means of selling their homes. So called “house raffles” have cropped up as a means to flout the challenging housing market. But since lotteries and raffles are only legally permitted to raise money for charities, it would be easy to run afoul of the law. Fortunately, experts think it unlikely that these raffles will become mainstream. Lucian Cook, head of residential research at Savills, says he believes that people will continue following traditional means to market.
