Those who hail from the United Kingdom and wish to buy property in the European Union have largely undeterred by the country’s decision to leave the EU. Brits still make up the majority of foreign property investors in France, which draws the most expensive properties from these Brits. Only about a third of those building property overseas were driven to abandon or sell those properties as a result of Brexit. The primary reason that these individuals are giving up these properties is because of the uncertainty regarding the legality of owning property in the EU as a UK citizen. Others are seeking to speed up the process of building the property, presumably to sell it before the UK formally leaves the EU. While Brexit initially hurt the business that Brits were doing in the French property market, business has steadily improved throughout the first half of 2017.
